No problem & a good idea since current NEC codes require a GFI

breaker on any outlet within 6 ft of a drain.

The GFI plug should be installed on any outlet that is close to

I would only put one on if there is a chance of getting electrocuted from
a laundry sink too close to the plug.
Check in ur owner is manual to see if the washer co. wants one. I know
from experience, that if lightning hits close, it affects gfi is & they
end up being replaced.

You are probably right about it not being a dedicated line.

But, a GFI is not a bad idea. It should work fine unless the wire

diameter is insufficient. On a house that old, I am surprised it has the

extra ground wire but that is a good sign. That indicates quality & it is

a safe bet that the wire gauge is sufficient to handle a washing machine.

If the wire does prove to be insufficient you can re-pull that run or have
an electrician do it. It can be difficult & you may need to pop some holes
in the walls to get the run completed but hopefully it will not come to
that.

The washing machine or any other thing you plug into a GFI will

not trip unless there is a short in such said appliance.
