Electricity outlets not working in one room
My breezeway electrical outlets stopped working one day. We had our freezer
and pool which was running on an extension cord ( you know the blow up
type) in one outlet for a couple of days. We had not had any problems
before this. The overhead light is still working, just the outlets are
not. We have stitched out the existing outlet hardwear and tripped all our
GFCl switches. The power is okay in the circuit breaker at the electrical
amp box. The outlets register negative. We would like to remedy this situation ourselvesinstead of paying an arm and leg for an electrician. Any suggestions? Thanks
Seems to be outdoor outlets. Would bet it is probably one of
the GFCI outlets. Possible it could test OK but not feeding through to
next outlet. To test this you will have to turn power off to GFCI then
remove GFCI from box pull clear of box turn power on test both side of
GFCI to make sure you have power in and power out. If not replace GFCI..
It sounds like you are over-loading your extension cord load
max capacity so its draining your capable power. You should only have one
item on extension cord (like Freezer) .it has to be a heavy type !! The
outlet itself may also be burned outed already from carrying such a
load.you could replace it if it tests out bad as well .just food for
thought.you should never extend a heavy duty appliance or big power drain
item such as a inflatable pool
Did you test ALL of the GFIs??? Some houses have them well
hidden.
First check your outlet. It is possible for the outlet to go
bad. It is also your cheapest at this point. Next would be to check your
wiring from the outlet to either a junction box in the wall ( where other
wires may also run) or if it is direct fed to your breaker box. If it is
direct fed you maybe able to disconnect the wires at the breaker box and
the outlet and if your luck pull through a new line. Good Luck
If you are running equipment off of an extension cord make sure
that it is large enough to carry the load. You probably just tripped a
breaker and without using an electrician try running the cord from
another part of the house
